I found this while listening to The 404 Podcast, the original link is from CNet.

It looks like Sony is going the way of Microsoft and releasing a ‘premium’ console, which according to the article, would have 160GB of storage. The bundle is said to be releasing for $499.99 according to Sony’s latest press release.

The bundle, which is being shipped with the new Dualshock 3 controller as well was Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and a code to download Pain from the Playstation store, is rumored to be coming out later this year. That along with a newly redesigned PSP looks to be a strong line-up for Sony heading into the holiday season as they look to overthrow Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and pull into second in this generation of consoles.

From the looks of things, with only two USB ports, it may just be the ‘core’ 40GB model [without backwards compatability] with a bigger harddrive. This may be the case, giving consumers more storage to re-buy/download their old favorites to their HDD. It is still dissappointing to see their backwards compatability gone, considering they have such a great line-up of classic PS2/PS1 games.

This is good news for anyone who was looking to buy a PS3 as their primary console as now you can make good use of Sony’s new video section of the Playstation Store. If you aren’t into movies or downloadable content, it may be best to just go ahead and get a 40GB/80GB [if you can find any left].
