iPhone 3G Tops RAZR
The NPD numbers are in, and after 12 quarters of being on top, the Motorola RAZR has finally been de-throned.
The iPhone 3G’s Q3 2008 numbers have finally surpassed that of the RAZR’s, which I find funny, because most carriers would have to pay someone to take them off of your hands. Sorry if that was a little rude, but my family [mother, father, and I] all had RAZR’s [2 V3's, 1 V3xx] and all three of them ended up not working in some way or another, by the time our 2 years were up. It is also a little more ironic that both me and my dad have iPhone 3G’s…
But personal issues aside, this is both a blessing and a curse. I applaud Apple for innovating the cellphone market, and making it to the top. But with great power comes great responsibility. The reason the RAZR stayed on top so long was because they started to mass produce the heck out of it. Pretty soon every man, woman, and child could get their hands on one, and it lost the ‘cool’ factor. That added with the fact that the phone had so many issues to begin with, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
Apple’s goal now is to keep that market share, without losing the sense of innovation, ‘coolness’, and technological power. What will Apple do with the next iteration of the iPhone? Will they make it even more affordable, going the way of the RAZR? Or keep it a luxury, adding more functionality with the same price tag? Tell me what you think in the comments section!
